Shaw's Cove is an amazing dive site and one of the most popular on the Southern California Coastline.

Access: To reach Shaw's cove, Take PCH to Fairview, and head towards the ocean.  There is lots of free parking on Cliff Drive, and then a short set of stairs to the beach.  The easiest way to locate Shaw's for the first time is to locate Laguna Sea Sport on PCH and turn there.

Conditions:  Visibility is usually around 15 feet, it can go up or down 10 feet or so, normally there is surge, but it hovers between 2-4 feet.  The Temperature of the California Coast is more of a chilly water.  Expect to wear a full suit throughout most of the year, sometimes the sun is bright enough that one could go without a full suit, but normally a 7 mil is recommended.

Shaw's is a very popular beginning site and on many Saturday mornings you will see almost 100 students learning the ropes at this site.  The fact that so many students frequent Shaw's, many diver avoid it, which is so sad beacuse of its amazing opportunities.  Shaw's entire dive site is covered in Purple Sea Anonomes and Garibaldi.  If you look closely you will also find lobster and eels in the cracks, as well as the elusive octopus.  Shaw's has many coves and tunnels, which sometimes can lead to a lot of surge.  Shaw's is also famous for "Shelly of Shaw's" the mystical mermaid.  Shaw's is one of the best dive sites in Laguna Beach, and even with large classes there is always lots of room to explore that often times you feel the entire site is yours.
